Artists in Residence

ARTIST IN RESIDENCE

The Canadian Tapestry and Texture Centre, in collaboration with The Oak Heights Art Gallery, has opened applications 2022-2023 for Artist-in-Residence programs. We provide artists with the unique opportunity to live and work in a creative environment. We provide the space, time and mentorship needed to expand their artistic practice.

Our residency programs offer unique experiences for emerging and established artists to escape the demands of everyday life and focus exclusively on creating. We are located in a stunning 1863 Victorian home surrounded by vineyards and the rolling hills of Northumberland County. We welcome artists interested in developing projects with non-toxic techniques who seek a deeper connection with the community and the environment. Our community is a place for creative dialogue, intended for artists to support and learn from each other.

The residency includes  access to kitchen and washing machine/dryer.  Artists will be given their own private workspace for computer work, drawing and other non-messy practices, alongside 24/7 access to the communal studio space. Artist’s usage of various outdoor spaces such as the terrace and gazebo as well as recreational indoor spaces are encouraged. Linen, towels and weekly room cleaning is included.

Artists are also strongly encouraged to explore. We are located a 1.5-hour drive from Toronto and Ottawa, as well as a 10–40-minute drive from many breathtaking hiking, fishing, and swimming spots along the Trent River and Lake Ontario.

At the end of the residency, artists will have the unique experience of presenting a selected exhibition in our gallery. (**applies on residencies of 3 or more weeks of duration). For writers and musicians, arrangement will be made with local TV and radio.
